Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated the nation’s first drone training centre at Dehradun on Monday. Inaugurating the Drone Application Research Centre and Cyber Security Centre at the IT Park here, the Chief Minister said that the centre will provide training ranging in period from 10 days to three months.

Set up with the assistance of National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO), this centre will prove quite advantageous especially to the youth seeking technical education. Rawat said that polytechnics and colleges will be selected and drone application programme training will be conducted in such institutions. Further, establishment of the cyber security centre will also help police in keeping an eye on cyber crimes and nabbing the criminals in the State.

The NTRO chairman Alok Joshi said that cyber security and drone application is a smart police concept. Stating that it was important to open a cyber security and drone application centre in Dehradun, he said that cyber security cannot be ensured on the basis of any one organisation alone. For this, it is essential to train as many persons as possible. The NTRO is always prepared to assist the police, he said, while adding that the centre in Dehradun will become a hub of drone activity and research in the future.

Chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh said that the demand for cyber security experts is rising rapidly. Uttarakhand faces various challenges in tackling cyber crime. The centre inaugurated in Dehradun has provided a good opportunity to the State in this sphere, he added.

The State and NTRO had signed an MoU in December 2017 for setting up drone research laboratory and training centre.

This included setting up of ultra-modern centre for drone research, setting up of a training centre with latest technology, forest survey, use and development of drone for rescue and relief during disasters.

For Cyber Security Training Centre, an MoU was signed between Uttarkhand Government and National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC) in December 2017.

It was aimed at providing infrastructure for important information and help maintain cyber cleanliness. The police, information technology staff, Government servants and students will be trained in the investigation of cyber crime and finer points of cyber security.
