Letter

The written word

more-in

The era of communication through postcard and inland letters is evergreen in the memories of senior citizens like me (“Post cards still around, but nothing to write home about”, July 9). I still have a postcard written decades ago by my maternal grandfather from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh to my father who was working in the High Ranges in Tamil Nadu informing him of my birth. His clear handwriting and well-crafted lines within the space available is still a wonder for me. Today’s digital era has no doubt made it easier to get in touch with family and friends at the click of a button, but it still can never replace the unique world of the written word.
