Cape Town - Defending champion and world No 2 Roger Federer channelled his inner-Sachin Tendulkar during his Round of 16 match at Wimbledon on Monday.

Federer defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-0, 7-5, 6-4 to reach his 16th Wimbledon quarter-final.

Leading 2-0 in the first set, Mannarino's fault serve was defended by Federer in an almost "cricket-like" fashion.

Wimbledon's social media account took notice and sent the ICC a tweet, saying: "Ratings for @rogerfederer's forward defence,@ICC?"

The ICC responded with a joke as they shared an image of the Test batting rankings, which showed the 8-time Wimbledon champion ranked as the No 1 Test batsman in the world - subsequently 'knocking' off Australia's Steve Smith.

The ICC then went onto post a meme of Federer and Indian legend Tendulkar in Spiderman costumes with a caption, "When greatness recognises greatness."

Federer is bidding for his ninth Wimbledon title and will take on South Africa's Kevin Anderson in the quarter-finals which get under way on Wednesday.
