
A security personnel in an ongoing encounter with militants in Kundalan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district Tuesday morning. Three civilians were also injured during clashes with law enforcement agencies near the encounter sire.
The gunbattle broke out after security forces launched a cordon and search operation following inputs about the possible presence of militants in the area.
An official said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire on the security forces, who retaliated. A jawan was injured in the exchange of fire with the militants, the official added.
He said a large number of civilians rushed towards the encounter site at Kundullan and started pelting stones at security personnel. Three civilians were injured in action by security forces to chase away the protestors, he said.
On Monday, a militant was killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Kupwara district.
