B’garh toilet work: Rs 10 cr scam alleged

| | BARGARH | in Bhubaneswar

Allegations of corruption have surfaced in the toilet construction works in Bargarh district where the administration is on an overdrive to complete the toilets by the deadline.

Many JEs and SDOs have came under scanner of the Vigilance and sent to jail. Still, no change has been found.

According to the sources, some venal officials take Rs1,000 per toilet for passing the bill as their PC. In many blocks like Bhatli, Ambavona, Sohela, Bijepur, Padampur, Paikmal, Gaisilet and Jharbandha etc, allegations of PC collection have come to the fore.

As per Government guideline, each IHHL (Individual House Hold Latrine) should adopt the twin pit technology while constructed. But here the rule is violated and below par construction work is done with impunity.

OWSM Director Rupa Mishra during her field visit in the concerned areas recently expressed her dissatisfaction and said that action would be taken against the venal officials.

She also found that maximum latrines have one pit and low stranded work and yet bill was passed.  In a recent case, the RWSS SDO Padampur was raided by the Vigilance and his assets worth Rs 1,87,14,729 were found. It is alleged that a scam of Rs10 crore in the toilet construction has been committed by the venal officials. Meanwhile, a probe into the irregularities has been demanded here.
