HYDERABAD: In a terrifying video in possession of Express, sanitation workers are seen digging, looking for a dead body in a local dump yard in Karimnagar amidst piles of dirt and plastic. Few minutes into the clip, a right foot is seen dangling out of a black garbage bag. All of this was caught on camera by the family members of the deceased, who was killed in a road accident on May 29.

When the family approached the Karimnagar municipal corporation to claim the body, the officials took them to the dump yard and dug out the body for them. A cousin of the deceased approached the State Human Rights Commission on Monday, alleging negligence in dealing with the dead body. The commission has sought a report from the Police Commissioner and District Collector of Karimnagar by September 20.

Speaking to Express, CN Reddy, cousin of the deceased for approached the commission, said that his family was not aware of the accident and was horrified when the dead body was found in a dump yard. Reddy has also claimed that the officials buried the body amid garbage. Reddy says his cousin was hit by an unidentified vehicle on May 29, while on his way from Karimnagar to Hyderabad.

The body was then taken to the Karimnagar Government Hospital mortuary where it was kept for five days. As none came forward to claim the body, the hospital handed it over to the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation. “We didn’t know about his death on the same day. We were inquiring about him, and we learnt that the body was taken by the Corporation,” Reddy told Express. The victim didn’t have any id proof on him at the time of the accident.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation informed Express that there are practical issues, where the dump yard and grave yard are located beside each other.
