Sarpanch's husband shot eight times

AMBALA: The husband of sarpanch of Baragaon village in Naraingarh block of the district was shot dead by some unidentified persons at Bakarpur village on Sunday morning. The deceased, identified as Session Judge, was a government school teacher and was going to Ganauli village when the accused stopped him and pumped about eight bullets into him.
Immediately after receiving the information, cops reached the spot and sent the body to local government hospital for post-mortem examination.

Protesting against the murder, family members of the deceased on Monday forcibly entered the hospital mortuary after breaking the door and took the body along. The protesters later blocked the Ambala road for six hours after putting the body on the road and demanded action against some persons from Baragaon village.

With the family blocking the road, the 3km-long traffic jam was witnessed on the road. Kin of the deceased have also accused local MLA Nayab Saini for protecting the murderers.

Soon after receiving the information about the traffic jam, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Virender Sangwan and Naraingarh deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Amit Bhatia reached the spot and tried to talk with the family members, who alleged that they had earlier given several complaints at Naraingarh police station but no action was taken against the culprits by chowki in-charge Suresh Kumar.

As the SDM and the DSP failed to ease the situation, Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Jorwal reached the spot and talked to the family members of the deceased. Jorwal also assured them that strict action as per law would be taken against the guilty.

He also said a proper investigation would be done, if chowki in-charge Suresh Kumar was found to be negligent in performing his duty, the action would be taken against him as well.

The family members accused MLA Saini for protecting the culprits and said some residents of their village were harassing them due to old rivalries and could not digest the victory of his wife Rekha in the panchayat elections and despite several complaints to the chowki in-charge, no action was taken as the culprits had links with the local MLA.

While Jorwal denied role of the MLA in the case, he said that on the complaint of family members of the deceased, a case has been registered against 11 persons under sections 302 (punishment for murder), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), and 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) of the IPC at Naraingarh police station.

The DSP, Amit Bhatia, said that the body was later handed over to the family members after conducting post-mortem examination.
