The Trinamool Congress has decided to stress on strenghtening its organisational capabilities in areas where BJP has made inroads in the May panchayat polls in West Bengal.
"Steps have already been taken to strenghten our organisation in areas where BJP has made some gains. All the gaps in the organisation in the grass root level will be covered before the 2019 election," a TMC leader said.
Jyotipriyo Mullick, a senior TMC leader, accused BJP of trying to gain foothold in the state by dividing the people along religious and caste lines.
Mullick, who is also the state food minister said, "The dirty tricks department of BJP is at work. But they won't succeed in Bengal as long as TMC is in the state. We will never allow BJP to divide Bengal on religious lines."
"The more BJP tries its divide and rule policy the more it will loose ground in Bengal. The BJP leaders in Bengal have lost their mental balance," he said.
The party has already made several changes at the block-level in the tribal Jangalmahal districts where BJP has made significant gains, TMC sources said.
TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee said BJP is "day dreaming" of winning maximum number of seats in Bengal.
"They don't have any connect with the masses of Bengal. The people of Bengal stand with Mamata Banerjee and her developmental politics," he said.
State BJP president Dilip Ghosh criticised TMC and termed the allegations against his party as 'baseless"'.
"It is TMC that has divided the people of the state just to secure its minority votebank. It is TMC's minority appeasement that has angered the majority community of the state," he added.
CPI-M leader Sujan Chakraborty said TMC and BJP are in competition with each other in the politics of communalism and criminalisation.
