AMBALA: A
sex-determination test racket was busted in
Ambala with the arrest of two persons on Saturday. The district health department team under Dr Vivek Bhandari was following the movements of the accused for the last one week following a tip off from a patient.
According to information, the patient had informed the doctor about the people who had offered her sex-determination test right outside the Ambala civil hospital.
The department constituted a team and the doctor told her to get in touch with them. The team arranged another woman to help the informer for security reasons.
When contacted, the accused tout asked for Rs 30,000. After which the medical team arranged Rs 15,000 for the informer to pay him. He asked her to wait for a couple of days and then contacted the woman with a raised demand of Rs 45,000. The team arranged Rs 30,000 and the currency numbers of all the notes were noted down.
The woman was then asked by the tout to come to the Ambala bus stand on July 7 at 4 pm.
At the spot they were asked to board the
Haryana Roadways bus going towards
Naraingarh. The team was also following the women.
After reaching Naraingarh, the tout contacted another person, who came to the location and was given some money by the tout.
This was the money arranged by the department. After a short discussion, the tout stayed back and another person took the women to a shop at Ravidas Majri Naraingarh on a motorcycle.
The team followed them to a shop. After some time the women came outside and signaled the team members, who immediately raided the shop. After seeing the team members, the person on the motorcycle managed to escape.
The team, along with the women, entered the shop and nabbed two persons red-handed who conducted the PNDT.
The team inspected the shop and founded an ultrasound machine, 28 types of allopathic medicines, four sets of intravenous fluids and also recovered Rs 10,000 from the two accused.
Local police were called on the spot, which confiscated all the material and mobile phones of both the accused. The arrested duo was identified as Firoz Khan, resident village Panjlasa, and Sanjay, a resident Wazirpur Gangoh village in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Investigating officer sub-inspector Dev Raj said the accused were presented before the court and sent to two-day police remand.
