GURUGRAM:
Police commissioner K K Rao has sought
performance details from each SHO and chowki in-charge with an aim to ensure efficiency of police stations and staff. The
cops have been given special performas, seeking
details of cases registered under them, pendency status, resolved cases and efforts made in nabbing accused or deterring crime. The performa asks details about rank; cases registered this year and the last in police station concerned, including number of vehicle theft cases and crimes against women; pendency etc.
Sources said that based on the performas, several SHOs and chowki in-charges will be transferred. However, KK Rao denied that that was the motive behind the exercise. “They (cops) have to justify their positions and conduct. If cases are pending without valid reasons, the police station concerned surely needs a change in guard. Similarly, cops who efficiently work but remain underdogs need to be brought forward to lead,” he told TOI.
According to sources, the exercise was started from last week and SHOs and chowki in-charges have already submitted their performas to the police commissioner. A chowki in-charge said that the performa only sought details about their professional work so that the police commissioner could direct them to close pending cases, especially of vehicle thefts and crimes against woman. However, a senior police officer said that the initiative was also an effort to make the force more efficient.
The police commissioner has also enquired about staff numbers, their working and well-being.
