MINI John Cooper Works Hardtop International Orange Edition Has Ridiculous Name, Matching Price Tag

If you like cars with ridiculously long names, you’re in luck as MINI has taken the wraps off the John Cooper Works Hardtop International Orange Edition.

Set to debut at the MINI Takes The States rally on July 14th, the special edition is based on the JCW Hardtop and features an International Orange exterior which is a “bold color historically used to make great feats of engineering and aerospace design stand out.”

Besides the eye-catching paint job, the model has been equipped with a handful of special accents including bumper decals, side strips and a black fuel filler cap. Designers also installed a Midnight Black Metallic rear spoiler, carbon fiber mirror caps and High Gloss Black door handles.

Rounding out the exterior styling features are a John Cooper Works Pro Exhaust system with a Bluetooth controlled flap and chrome finishers. The special edition also rides on 18-inch John Cooper Works wheels with a Ferric Gray finish.

While the exterior has a handful of custom touches, the cabin doesn’t get the same treatment. However, it comes nicely equipped with heated front seats, an automatic climate control system and a Harman Kardon audio system with Sirius XM satellite radio. Buyers will also find a panorama glass roof, piano black trim and a Comfort Access keyless entry system. Other highlights include Active Driving Assistant, a head-up display, GPS navigation and the storage package.

MINI declined to mention performance specifications but the model likely uses a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine that produces 228 hp (170 kW / 231 PS) and 236 lb-ft (319 Nm) of torque. It enables the standard model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.9 seconds when equipped with the optional six-speed automatic transmission.

The MINI JCW Hardtop International Orange Edition will arrive at dealerships this fall and pricing starts at $39,900 – excluding an $850 destination and handling fee. That’s $8,100 more than the standard JCW Hardtop and is only $2,700 less than the larger, faster and more powerful Audi A5 Sportback.
