Christ University kick starts Golden Jubilee celebration

BENGALURU: Come Wednesday, it will be a glorious 50 years for the Christ University, a deemed-to-be university in Bengaluru that has taught over 65,000 students since 1969. On Wednesday, the varsity will inaugurate the 50th year of its existence by release its own stamp.

"We are focusing on promoting research and increasing publications to take us to into the league of premier institutes like the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. By the next year, we will establish a research institute within the campus and many more research programmes to inculcate the culture," said Fr Abraham VM, pro vice chancellor of Christ University.

On July 11, Noble Laureate Kailash Satyarthi will deliver the Golden Jubilee address and on July 21, Anil D Sahasrabudhe, chairman of AICTE is the chief guest.

Alumnni members including Sudha Murthy, Infosys Foundation chairperson, MN Reddi, DGP (fire and emergency services), Krishna Byre Gowda, minister for rural development and Panchayat Raj and journalist Raj Chengappa will be the guests on these days to celebrate the year. Apart from this, Mysuru Maharaja Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and Nandan Nilekani, Infosys Cofounder will also attend the celebrations.

The varsity has over 21,000 students in campus currently including 600 foreign nationals from 60 plus countries. It is the most sought after college for humanities and MBA programmes among students even from outside the state. It offers 48 under graduate, 48 post graduate, 16 M Phil and 17 doctoral programmes.

The University received NAAC accreditation in 1998, A+ accreditations in 2005 and 2016 and in 2008, it was declared a deemed to be university by MHRD.
