Expected to ensure safe travel for locals, tourists

The 520-metre long bridge across Campbell Canal was brought under the CC camera surveillance by the Krishna police, keeping an eye on the strategic entry into a range of tourist spots, including confluence point of river Krishna into the Bay of Bengal and moderately dense mangrove forest cover.

The vehicular movement as well as movements of outsiders, mostly tourists, are good in number at the bridge as the distance between Machilipatnam and Hamsaladeevi will come down by 15 kilometres. The bridge, a World Bank project under the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project, is located between Bhavanipuram village in Machilipatnam mandal and Ullipalem village in Koduru mandal in Krishna district.

Despite the ₹100 crore project is yet to be inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the vehicular movement is being allowed on the bridge for the convenience of locals as well as tourists.

“In the perspective of crime prevention, the bridge is the most important location to keep an eye on. We have decided to record the movements of everything that passes through the bridge 24x7,” Avanigadda Deputy Superintendent of Police Pothuraju told The Hindu.
