Will be happy only after convicts hanged: Victim’s mom

| | New Delhi

After the Supreme Court on Monday upheld the death sentence to four men in the Nirbhaya gang-rape case, the victim's mother Asha Devi said, "She had been vindicated once again and hoped the convicts would be executed soon."  Our faith  in the judiciary was reinstated  and we hope to get justice ", the parents said.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan rejected the review pleas of Mukesh (29), Pawan Gupta (22) and Vinay Sharma (23) today, saying no grounds were made out by them for a review of the verdict.

Showing victory sign Asha  said, "Once again we got justice from the apex court's verdict that has once again sent a strong message to the culprits who commits such heinous crimes. However, our fight has not stopped here. We will fight till the culprits hanged to death. I will be happy only after the culprits are hanged to death."

Nirbhaya's father Badri Singh said  he was happy about justice done to his late daughter. "This is the fight of six years. After fighting in three platform, the Supreme Court once again awarded justice to the all the Nirbhayas of the country."

The convicts still have the option to file a curative petition in the Supreme Court and send mercy petitions to the President of India.

Further, speaking on the curative petition which is a last option for the culprit to escape from the death penalty, Asha said, "Let them go to the tip wherever they want, my child faced such horrible situation and we will fight to get justice for us. It will be a shame on the entire country, if Nirbhaya will not get justice. If they will go to President of India, we will also not take our step back. When we have fought for six years seeking justice to my daughter, then we can also face this."

"Everyday crime, rape against woman and even eight- month-old child is happening in the country. So, fear should come in the eyes of those culprits who commit such heinous crime. If any strict punishment than the hang to death will be there, I will request the President, Prime Minister and the Apex court to award that punishment to these culprits," added Asha.

The victim, a 23-year-old physiotherapist, was gang-raped by six persons, including a juvenile, in Delhi in a moving chartered bus on December 16, 2012. She succumbed to her injuries in a Singapore hospital, triggering huge protests across the country.

Meanwhile, Chief of Delhi Commission for Woman (DCW) Swati Jaihind announced that she will issue notice to the Tihar Jail authorities and the Delhi Police to urgently execute the death penalty and give immediate justice to Nirbhaya.

The entire country today welcomes the SC decision on Nirbhaya matter of upholding the death penalty to rapists. But it has been six years and the decision could have come earlier. However, the hearing review petition is held but till the rapist have options to escape from the death penalty. So, the DCW preparing notices to be issued to the Delhi Police and the authorities to execute the death penalty. Otherwise, a message will go the criminals and rapists that the system is week and can't do anything."

Maliwal further added that she will also appeal to the Prime Minister to take strict steps to provide safety to woman and children. Also, we request to set up more fast tracks in the country and hearing on the rape cases should speedily in six months and the rapist should get severe punishment for committing such heinous crime.

Mailwal along with hundreds of students from across the country held a ten day hunger movement- 'Rape Roko Movement' severe punishment and death penalty to the rapist earlier this year. She also launched a website —raperoko.org which got good responses from the public and thousands of people signed petition supporting the DCW chief.
