Coimbatore: The Times of India launched a coffee table book titled ‘Retales - Chronicles of Retail Success’ on Tuesday. The aptly titled book features the history and success stories of the city’s 15 most reputable brands in fields like photography,
baking,
textiles,
jewellery and even coffee.
“All these brands are from mundane fields, which are not based on technology or patents. These brands have existed in a crowded market and if they have succeeded and survived across several generations, it is because of their positive attitude and the ability to focus on the macro picture. They saw more potential than challenges,” said managing director of Thiagarajar Mills, Karumuttu Kannan, who launched the book at the Residency Towers. The book would motivate others to excel and find a place in future publications, he said.
Kannan said most of the graduates look for jobs and hardly even dream of entrepreneurship. “I think this book, if kept in college libraries and looked through by students, would inspire them to consider entrepreneurship as an option.”
Some of the brands featured in the book are Aroma Bakery, IAB Photography, Sumangalli Jewellery, Durga Diamonds, PSR Silks, Sri Krishna Sweets, Kannan Jubilee Coffee and Twin Birds.
