Ooty residents want officials to relay Marlimund Road

Udhagamandalam: Residents of Havelock Road in Ooty on Tuesday urged municipal officials to relay Marlimund Road from Commissioner Road junction as it was dug up for cable laying works. They also said the concrete footpath close to St Stephen’s Church on Marlimund Road was used by people to defecate and blamed it on official apathy.
T Rangaiah, a local resident, told TOI, “From St Stephen’s Church junction, the condition of Marlimund Road is very bad. Both the sides of road are not laid properly after it was dug up for laying cables. Ooty municipality is responsible for the road. But has turned a blind eye to the issue, despite repeated complaints.” Pointing out that the concrete footpath near St Stephen’s Church helps pedestrians to save time when they move from lower road to upper one, Rangaiah said, “People use the footpath to defecate as bushes cover the path.”

“The condition of other main roads such as Walsham Road and Ettinnes Road are also pathetic. Encroachments on these roads should be removed immediately,” said an activist.TNN
