NEW DELHI: Union home minister
Rajnath Singh on Tuesday stressed on the need to ensure quality broadband
services in the
northeast region to help its youth find employment opportunities closer home and stop them from migrating to distant places.
Addressing the concluding session of 67th plenary of the North Eastern Council in
Shillong, Singh said a “new north-east” would emerge through better road connectivity and information technology.
Stating that PM Modi had dreamt of a ‘New India’ by 2022, he said “If we can provide quality broadband services in the region, the youth will find employment opportunities closer home,” he added.
Underlining the importance of employment to counter insurgency, he said, “The northeastern states need to create a conducive environment for private investments, an atmosphere that makes the investors feel safe...”
