Two All State Championships qualifiers are among our list of 2018 Herald News Girls’ Track and Field All Scholastics. Somerset Berkley Regional is the biggest supplier of talent to our list, which highlights the accomplishments of the area’s top throwers, jumpers and runners. Click here for video.

 

AMBER LATTUCA, Bishop Stang: A sophomore, the Tiverton resident is among the state’s elite in the 400 meters. She was undefeated in dual meets, took first place at the Eastern Athletic Conference Championships, and was eighth at the MSTCA Invitational (all divisions). She ran a personal record 59.07 in taking third place at Eastern Massachusetts Division 4 and followed with another personal record 58.78 in taking eighth place at All State.

KATHRYN SULLIVAN, Somerset Berkley Regional: The junior followed an all-scholastic indoor season with a spring season that saw her set the school 100-meter hurdles FAT record (15.79) in taking first place at the Sunset Invitational. She also had a 15.4 hand timing. The team’s leading scorer, Sullivan had a 16-3 long jump and 33-0 triple jump. In the hurdles, she was third at Eastern Massachusetts D3 and competed at All State. She was 11th long jump at EMass 3. Sullivan capped her season with seventh place at the South Sectional Heptathlon.

BARBARA SILVA, Durfee: One of our all-scholastic regulars, DaCunha Silva this school year already earned the honor for volleyball and indoor track and field. This spring, the junior had a memorable day at the Eastern Massachusetts Division 1 Championships, taking eighth place in the javelin (101 feet, 3 inches) and ninth place in the shot put (33 feet, 2 inches). Her javelin season best coming into the meet was 91-9.

MEREDITH CASTRO, Case: The seasons may change, but Castro’s status as an all scholastic doesn’t. A soccer and indoor track standout, Castro this spring added significantly to her resume. She was second in the 100 and triple jump at the South Coast Conference meet. Then at Eastern Massachusetts Division 4, she was 10th in the 100 (13.02, school record), ninth in the triple jump (33-10.75) and on the 4x100 team that placed 11th. Casto long jumped 15-9.

McKENZIE OFFLEY, Somerset Berkley Regional: A freshman, she was talented and diverse. She ran a 64.4 400 meters, placing fifth at the South Coast Conference meet. She high jumped 4-10, ran a 27.4 200, and qualified for the Eastern Massachusetts Division 4 Championships as part of the 4x100 relay team.

ASHLEY MACEK, Somerset Berkley Regional: A sophomore, she had a strong showing at the South Coast Conference Championships, taking fourth place in the long jump, sixth place in the 100 meters and running on the fourth-place 4x100 relay. She qualified for eastern Massachusetts Division 3 in the long jump (16-2.5) and the 100 (13.10).

MEGAN BORGES, Case: The other half of Case’s sophomore dynamic duo, Borges flashed her speed in the 200 meters this spring, winning the South Coast Conference Freshman-Sophomore Meet for the second year in a row, taking second place at the SCC Championships and 10th place at Eastern Massachusetts Division 4 (school record 27.00). She ran on the school-record setting 4x100 team. Borges also high jumped 4-6.

CAMRYN CROOK, Somerset Berkley Regional: Yet another outstanding freshman, Crook gave the Raiders a huge boost in the long distance and middle distance events. She posted a personal record 5:52 mile at the South Coast Conference Championships and had a best 13:26 in the two miles. She ran on the 4x800 team that was second at the SCC Championships. Crook was a field hockey all scholastic in the fall.

KIM LAJOIE, Diman Regional: A sophomore, Lajoie ran the 100 meters, 200 meters, 4x100 and long jumped and, in dual meets, never finished lower than third place in any of those events. She took third place in the 100 meters at the Mayflower Athletic Conference Championships and qualified for Eastern Massachusetts Division 3. “Our first girl qualifier in at least a decade,” coach Tom Librera said.

ANOUSH ALEMIAN, Durfee: A junior, Almeian flew under the radar this spring, but there’s no denying she’s among the area’s best throwers. Her best event was the javelin and her season-best 95-0 throw earned her the No. 15 seed for the Eastern Massachusetts Division 1 Championships. She held true to form, taking 15th place at EMass 1.

SARAH FITZGERALD, Somerset Berkley Regional: A junior, Fitzgerald showed what kind of progress can be made through practice and determination. At the start of the season, her personal record in the discus was 62-4. At the end of the year, her p.r. was 90-2. She finished fourth at the SCC meet where she was also 10th in the shot put. She qualified for Eastern Massachusetts D3 in the discus.

KAYLIN CUNNINGHAM, Somerset Berkley Regional: A junior, Cunningham solidified her place among the best throwers in the area. The javelin was very best event and she had a season best throw of 100 feet, 4 inches. She was fifth at the South Coast Conference meet and qualified for Eastern Massachusetts Division 3 where she placed 10th.

RACHEL DAVIDSON, Case:   A junior, Davidson shined brightest in the 400 meters where she went undefeated in dual meets. She capped her season with a her best 400 time of the season, a 64.30 to place 13th in the Eastern Massachusetts Division 4 Championships. She was also part of Case's fine 4x100 relay team that took third place at the South Coast Conference Championships.

KATHLEEN MARTIN, Somerset Berkley Regional: A junior, she excelled in the javelin and shot put. Her best javelin throw was 93-3 and her best shot put 31-1. At the South Coast Conference Championships, she placed seventh in the javelin and eighth in the shot put. She qualified for Eastern Massachusetts Division 3 in both events.

CAITLIN LOURENCO, Somerset Berkley Regional: A junior, Lourenco is a fierce competitor and legitimate team leader. This spring she ran the two miles (12:33), mile (6:12) and, perhaps her best event, the 800 meters (2:31). She qualified for Eastern Massachusetts Division 3 in the 800. Lourenco received the South Coast Conference Sportsmanship Award.

JULEEN GUIRAND, Somerset Berkley Regional: A sophomore, Guirand made a name for herself in the 400 meters, performing best on the big stage. She came into the Eastern Massachusetts Division 3 Championships seeded 19th with a 62.80. At the meet, she shaved almost a second off her personal record, displaying a tremendous kick in finishing 10th in 61.89.
