The East Coast Railway (ECoR) would gear up all resources to ensure that the railway establishment at Puri, including the railway station, is presented to the people as an epitome of cleanliness.

“As a part of our contribution to Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, it is extremely important for us to present the Puri railway station in its best condition during the entire Rath Yatra period. The station should give a very positive feeling to all pilgrims and tourists. Make efforts and ensure all these,” ECoR General Manager Umesh Singh told senior officials of the railways while reviewing Rath Yatra preparations of the Railways.

Every year, thousands and thousands of passengers travel by trains to Puri to witness the Rath Yatra celebrations. Keeping this in view, the Railways have announced to run 184 special trains in addition to the normal trains this year. A few more special trains are being planned and the total number is likely to touch 190, he said. Reviewing security arrangements, Singh stressed upon proper crowd management by RPF and GRP and advised to install extra CCTV cameras at crucial points. The Rath Yatra APP developed by the ECoR would help get information about trains, he said.

The Railways have also planned to provide truck-mounted accident relief vehicle to reach any point at Puri station to provide relief in case of emergency.
