Chandigarh: Farmers ‘outfits do not seem united on the same demand of MSP on crops. That’s why the main outfits of farmers’BKU (Rajewal) and BKU (Lakhowal) held separate activities in the Chandigarh. President of BKU (Rajewal), Balbir Singh Rajewal said in the meeting that the increase in MSP on crops is based on old structure, but the gap will more between input and output of crops. Other hand, General Secretary of the BKU (Lakhowal) Harinder Singh Lakhowal, while submitting memorandum to the Governor of Punjab, advocated Swami Nathan report and said that the farmers’will gherao Delhi on September 23, if their demands were not met.
Ahead of PM Narender Modi’s visits to Punjab in thanksgiving rally in Malout on July 11, the farmers ‘outfits have intensified their demand rejecting MSP and seeking implementation of Swami Nathan report. Talking to Reporters, farmer’s leader Rajewal demonstrated mathematic of crops with fresh MSP and told that input cost will overlap to the increase in minimum support price of crops. He told that according to new MSP, a farmer will able to get Rs 4500 more from one acre of land from paddy crop, but the cost of increased diesel rate, cost of labour for paddy transplantation, GST on fertiliser, weedicides, pesticides and agriculture implements and some unplanned usual expenses will cost the farmers more than Rs 4500 per acre.
Other hand a delegation of BKU Lakhowal, under the leadership of its General Secretary submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Punjab. Union demanded Swamin Nathan, crop insurance, crop residue management, separate budget for agriculture from the Centre Government as well as permission of opium harvesting , arrangements for stray cattle and outstanding of sugarcane from Punjab Government. Lakhowal warned if the demands are not met, thousands of farmers will start their agitation from Haridwar to Delhi on September 23.
