HYDERABAD:Burglars have broken into two locked houses at Shabad in Rangareddy district recently and decamped with gold and other valuables when the residents were away on a pilgrimage.
The victims said they were not sure of the exact value of the property stolen but police suspect that it could be huge. As an inter-state gang, moving in an i20 car, was involved in a series of offences in the city in June, police have alerted all bordering check-posts to any such vehicle.
According to the police, two brothers constructed flats in a new venture on the outskirts of Nagarguda village within Shabad police station limits. They had initially wanted to sell the flats but finding no buyers, they rented the flats out. One Pavan Kumar, a real estate businessman, rented one flat and one Satyanarayana, a textile merchant, the other.
On July 4, Satyanarayana’s family went to Tirupati on a pilgrimage. Pavan, occupant of another flat, dropped his wife and mother at his sister’s home in the city and went on a pilgrimage to Srisailam along with his friends on the evening of July 6. He returned home at midnight on Sunday and found the lock of the main door of his flat broken and the valuables and cash kept in the almirah missing. He informed the police who, after visiting the spot, found that the neighbouring flat had also been burgled. Pavan said his mother and wife knew how much gold and cash were kept in the almirah. The value of the property stolen from the other flat also could not be ascertained as Satyanarayana’s family is yet to return home.
The clues teams also visited the spot and found wet footprints and shoe prints in both the houses, suggesting that the thefts took place while it was raining outside.M Ravi Kumar, Shabad police sub-inspector, said the burglaries could have occurred on the night of July 7 when it rained very heavily.
“There is no clarity on the property lost. Once the family members come back and assess the loss, we can make an estimate.
