Rally Effect: Notice sent to two schools against fee hike

An organisation-National Association for Parents and Student Rights-held a protest rally in Dehradun on Monday, venting anger against   the fees collected by some private schools under different categories. Taking a serious note of the complaints, the District Education Officer Hemlata Bhatt sent notice to two such schools for making the parents to shell out a large sum in the name of multiple fees and declared that such a practice would be stopped. NAPSR named two schools  the managements of which have allegedly hiked the fees   by around 100 per cent. The association alleged that both the schools were taking money in the name of annual charge and caution money which was Rs 12000.

Members of NAPSR also submitted a memorandum to the District Education Officer Hemlata Bhatt and the Chief Education Officer SB Joshi. Taking serious action on the complaint, Bhatt sent notice to both the schools. She, further, assured the aggrieved parents and others that the private schools taking money in the name of multiple fees for business purpose is an unjust practice which the administration would not brook under any circumstances.  

Speaking about their grievances, the national president of the association Arif Khan said that since the beginning of the new session, complaints against around 12 schools have been forwarded to the District Education Office through their association. “Just notice has been sent, but no action has been taken in any of the cases we are fighting against,” he said.

He , further, said that if the education department fails to take action against the schools engaged in taking money in the name of myriad fees by July 15  the members of NAPSR would go for a full-blown movement in the city.

Among those present at the protest rally were B S Negi, Veer Bahadur Khatri, Om Prakash Bisht, Manoj Bisht and Vijay Chauhan.
