Two escape with minor injuries in Guirim truck-car mishap

Two senior citizens sustained minor injuries after a truck dashed against their car on the national highway at Guirim on Tuesday morning. According to Mapusa police, the accident took place at around 11.15 a.m when the car was proceeding from Porvorim to Mapusa while the loaded truck was also heading towards Mapusa.  Police informed that right hand side axle of the truck got damaged and this resulted in the vehicle losing control and hitting the car which was in front. The truck then also rammed into an electricity pole on the median. The impact was such that the car was totally smashed, however, its two occupants had a narrow escape. They sustained minor injuries. Identified as Ratnakar Challan, 62 and C Sankaran, 64, both from Porvorim, they were shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.

Mapusa police team rushed to the spot and conducted panchanama. Mapusa traffic PI Tushar Vernekar along with his staff regularised the traffic flow. DySP Serafin Dias and Mapusa PI Tushar Lotlikar also visited the spot. The injured were discharged after treatment, it was stated.  Head constable Ulhas Gaonkar is further investigating the case.
