Around fifty families residing in the village get their drinking water from the Shenbagathoppu dam. The water is brought through pipelines and stored in the local overhead tank and then supplied to individual houses.
A couple of weeks ago, villagers noticed that the water was polluted besides emitting a foul smell. Although they lodged several complaints with the local officials, the latter did not act on their promise of rectifying the problem.
With no solution in sight, villagers decided to apply pressure on the officials. They detained a government bus plying between Arni and Perumalpet. They refused to allow the bus to proceed on its journey.
On receipt of information, Sandavasal police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the villagers. The bus was released only after the police personnel promised to talk to the concerned officials about the issue.
