There are 1.17 lakh such cheques undistributed

The Revenue Department is grappling with the huge number of cheques issued under the Rythu Bandhu, that remained undistributed.

A significant number of the cheques, a whopping 1.17 lakh, were issued in the name of beneficiaries who died and they remained undistributed. Of these, Nalgonda stood on top with 9,180 cheques issued in the name of persons followed closely by Jagtial (8,980), Kamareddy (8,922) and Mahbubnagar (7,931). The prime reason behind this, according to senior officials, is the beneficiaries did not inform the authorities concerned about the death of the landowner/pattadar in time as a result of which the names of the deceased instead of the legal heirs continued in the official records.

Similar was the case with the landowners who are residing in other parts of the State and the country as also those who left the country in search of employment. As many as 2.54 lakh cheques had been issued in the name of beneficiaries who are not residing in the respective villages while 60,900 beneficiaries on whose names the cheques were issued were found to be residing outside the country. According to the details prepared by the department, 47.59 lakh cheques out of the 57.88 lakh targeted were distributed as per the records available under the management information system leaving around 9 lakh cheques yet to be distributed.

A little over 3.2 lakh cheques remained undistributed owing to revenue-related issues while another 2.7 lakh cheques pertained to other reasons. Nalgonda with little over one lakh cheques that remained undistributed as of June-end topped the list followed by Sangareddy with 62,911 and Suryapet with 52,972.
