House gutted as blaze tears through Attadale property

A Perth mother whose toddler was sleeping just metres from flames was forced to make a run for it on Monday afternoon when her neighbour's home caught fire.

The blaze, which has been contained but not controlled, broke out about 2.20pm on Roberts Road.

At this stage it is understood the fire was started while a boat on the property was being refuelled.

One man is understood to have been treated at the scene by St John Ambulance personnel.

Derek Rose was one of the first to the single-storey brick property, and said he saw smoke from two streets away and "ran over".

"The boat went up first," he said.

"It went into the roof from there."

Witnesses reported flames coming within metres of neighbouring homes.

Natasha Koekemoer had to run from her house with her two children, one aged seven, and one a toddler.

"I just grabbed my 20-month-old and ran," she said.

Police and Western Power are in attendance with a 100-metre exclusion zone set up around the property.

DFES are expected to issue a local area warning shortly.
