It makes sense for large SUVs like the Ford Expedition to dominate this list. Often, these are bought by large, busy families that haul kids, groceries, and weekend DYI projects every day of the week. The spacious cabin, and generous cargo area make SUVs the perfect daily driver for many people. 

“Luxury vehicles typically aren’t driven for as many miles because they are often leased, causing owners to keep their mileage down,” said Phong Ly, CEO of iSeeCars.com. “However, the Escalade ESV is the extended stretch version of the standard Escalade and is a common livery vehicle, which explains its appearance on the list.”

Honda’s Pilot SUV takes the number seven spot on the list, barely beating out the Escalade ESV for most miles driven on average. 

The Odyssey is the only minivan on this list. However, overall miles that are driven on average by minivans exceed the SUV segment.   

“SUVs as a vehicle segment are driven an average of 12,037 miles per year and are second to only minivans,” said Ly. The minivan segment averages 12,501 miles. 

“The vehicles with the highest annual mileage tend to also be the vehicles that last the longest,” said Ly, which is why GMC’s entry-level luxury SUV taking the number five spot on the list is no surprise. SUVs, often built on truck frames, are rough-and-tough durable, built for daily abuse from kids and heavy cargo.

“People who drive their cars the most are likely to prolong the lives of their vehicles with regular service and maintenance because these vehicles may be a large part of their livelihood,” said Ly. 

Considering Toyota's better-than-average reliability, it makes sense to see this on the list. 

The Chevrolet Tahoe – the Suburban’s smaller sibling – is the first of three GM products on the list. The Tahoe has hauled families across the country and back again, racking up the miles. It’s hard to beat an SUV when you’re looking for the ultimate utility vehicle. 

Coming in second is the extended Yukon. The extra space means more room for passengers, cargo, and comfort. The GMC Yukon XL is first of two SUVs that average more than 14,000 in a year. That’s a lot of trips to the hardware store.

This should come as no surprise. Even with gas unpredictable gas prices, Chevy’s Suburban is one of the ultimate family haulers, perfect for taking the soccer to the team to the big game or going across the country on vacation. 

For all the videos showing various Ford Mustangs plunging into crowds, the two-door coupe isn’t driven that much, on average, compared to SUVs and minivans. Which is probably a safety precaution. The Mustang’s rear-wheel drive and cramped rear seats makes it more acceptable as a second vehicle than someone’s daily driver.

BMW’s long, luxurious coupe takes the number nine spot, racking up just 8,895 miles on average. That's 22.2 percent below the average for all 10-year-old vehicles. 

Just two spots down from its coupe cousin, the Mustang convertible takes the number eight spot with about 500 fewer miles. You can only have some drop-top fun when the weather is beautiful, which would make sense as to why the Mustang convertible is driven less.  

Just like the Mustang, the BMW 6 Series convertible is driven less than its coupe counterpart. A lot less actually. This is a trend you’ll see throughout this list where the both the coupe and convertible version are here, with convertibles averaging fewer miles. 

This is the first two-seat sports car on the list. The lack of rear seats and small interior make the Mazda Miata a niche vehicle. You can’t exactly take your family to the movies in this. 

The Mercedes SL-Class is on this list for a combination of several factors. One, it’s a convertible, which limits its usability for its intended purpose of enjoying the sunshine. And two, it’s a luxury car. Luxury vehicles are driven fewer miles by owners on average. 

The Chevy Corvette coupe comes it at number four. It’s driven 56.8 percent fewer miles than average. 

“Coupes and convertibles are the least driven vehicle segments, with coupes being driven 23 percent less than the average vehicle and convertibles 54 percent less,” noted Ly in the study. 

There’s little difference between the Porsche 911 coupe and convertible being driven on average. The coupe averages a few more miles year – but not by much – clocking just 4,637 miles. 

The number two spot goes to the 911 convertible. The data doesn’t break down specific trims, but considering Porsche has a stable full of high-performance cars it’s unlikely they’re frequently driven enough to rack up many miles. 

Taking the number-one spot on the list is the Corvette convertible. The drop-top American sports car averages 61.8 percent fewer miles driven a year then your average 10-year-old vehicle. The Corvette, like many on the list, is the epitome of niche vehicles – designed for weekend cruises and trips to the track. They’re not the high-mileage SUVs that haul one’s life back and forth to work, school, and other engagements.
