ADILABAD/ NIZAMABAD: Heavy downpour had inundated several low lying areas in Adilabad. The backwaters of Palsikar Ranga Rao project marooned roads and entered into the houses in Gundeaghaon village causing commotion among the villagers.
Endowments minister A Indrakaran Reddy and Nirmal district collector M Prashanti visited the village and assured them of rehabilitation on Sunday. The minor irrigation project was completed long ago, but villagers have not received rehabilitation package yet. Meanwhile, the district received about 16.7 mm rainfall which brought inflows into the Kaddam project to the tune of 10,000 cusecs. One gate of the project has been opened.
The Vellampelli project is getting inflows to the tune of 3,167 cusecs. Godavari river near Basara and Pranahitha and Penganga rivers are flowing at full level.
However, the roads in few market areas have been badly damaged. The rain water has stagnated near the under construction bridge at Punjab Chowk causing inconveniences to the public. The administration has alerted people living in low lying areas and asked them to shift to safer places.
In Nizamabad district, rains over the past few days have caused considerable damage to main roads. Potholes have surfaced at various stretches under Nizamabad Municipal Corporation (NMC). Several engineering departments have taken up works related to Mission Bhagiratha and underground drainage system, but with the works going on at a snail’s pace several roads are under repair causing inconvenience to public.
When contacted, NMC Deputy Executive Engineer B Anand Sagar said that under NMC limits a total of 300 internal roads have been effected due to the UGD works.
