Man kills old widow suspecting sorcery

A 45-year-old man was arrested by Sundargarh police on Sunday allegedly for killing one 65-year- old widow, suspecting her of practising witchcraft.

Police also seized a bamboo stick and an axe from the accused, which were reportedly used for committing the crime. The accused was identified as Ghanshyam Ekka , native of Bhati tolla of Jadishpur village under Kuanrmunda police outpost. He was not keeping good health over last few years and was suspecting one Birsa Barla (65), a widow and also native of same village, of practicing witchcraft which was the cause behind his illness. On Saturday evening, when Birsa Barla was doing some domestic work in her house, Ghanshyam suddenly attacked her with a bamboo stick. Birsa reportedly received critical injuries on her head and was in a pool of blood. Later, she succumbed to her injuries. On the complaint of Munu Barla, son of deceased Birsa Barla, a police team reached the spot and recovered the body and sent the same for post mortem.
