KOLKATA: About 50 to 60 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students of Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) had gheraoed the Principal of CMCH on Thursday demanding that they may be allowed to reside in the hostel of 1st year students of CMCH. The principal was later brought out of the campus with police help later in the night.
The students had started a protest demonstration and gheraod the principal's room, protesting that their demands were not being looked up. The students complained that they have given petition to the authorities time and again but that the principal did not properly looked into their demands.

The students have been demanding that the medical students who have been living in the 4th floor of the main boys' hostel must be given new hostel accommodation by an open and transparent hostel counselling process.

The students also demanded to have an associate or assistant professor to be the superintendent of the new boys' hostel and that the hostel accommodation of the students must be strictly in accordance with all the regulations of MCI.
