THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Women's Commission today registered a case on the allegations raised by a popular television actress against a TV serial director regarding his improper behaviour.

Nisha Sarangh, who plays one of the lead characters in the TV drama 'Uppum Mulakum' in a Malayalam channel, had come out against its director R Unnikrishnan alleging that she was removed from the serial after she resisted his "misbehaviour."

A large number of people from various walks of life, including 'Women in Cinema Collective' (WCC) and Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), came out in her support.

A senior KSWC official said the Commission suo motu registered the case based on news reports on the actress' allegation.

"We have given a letter to the DGP seeking a police report into the actress' allegations. We will examine the report and then decide upon further course of action," the officer told PTI.

The Commission would also record the statements of both the actress and the director later, the officer added.

With the issue triggering a row, the private channel came out with a statement claiming that the actress was not removed from the serial.
