Against the backdrop of complaints received from the various private schools in the national Capital on the minimal amount reimbursed by the Delhi Government for allowing students under the Economically Weaker Section Category (EWS), the Government has decided to give Rs 600 more per child as monthly reimbursement.

Now all private schools in the Capital, from the upcoming academic session will get over Rs 600 more per child as monthly reimbursement for admissions under the EWS category.

After Deputy Education Minister Manish Sisodia received complaints from various private schools on the amount reimbursed by the Government to them for allowing students under the EWS category, the Government has decided to step in and increase the amount.

All private schools are required to give admissions to 25 per cents of total admitted students to children from EWS of the society.

A principal of a high-end private school in Delhi said on the condition of anonymity that the amount given by the Government as reimbursement for EWS category students is not enough to meet the expenses. Also, he said that the said amount should differ from school to schools as different schools have different requirements and expenses.

"It has now been decided that the amount will be raised to Rs 2,242 for students from class nursery to 5 and Rs 2,225 for students from class 6 and 8. Currently, the government reimburses Rs 1,598 to private schools in lieu of admission of students who belong to this section," said a Directorate of Education (DoE) official.

The schools will also get an annual reimbursement of Rs 1,100 for students of up to class V for their uniforms and Rs 1,400 for students up to Class VIII.

However, schools are required to furnish utilization certificate to districts within two months of receipt of money and also furnish a certificate that it had provided uniform and textbooks to these students as prescribed by the school. Every school is required to maintain a separate bank account for receiving the reimbursement amount.

The reimbursements shall be restricted to the period the student studied in that school during the year.

While those belonging to families with annual income less than one lakh can seek admission under the EWS category, the Disadvantaged Group (DG) category applicants include the SC, ST, OBC, non-creamy layer, differently-able and transgender.
