The road to god is not really the road to peace and prosperity. Rather, it is road to irrationality and mass suicide as it has been well demonstrated in the suicide of all the 11 members of the Bhatia family on June 30 in North Delhi, said Freethough Party  of India (FPI) president Dr Bijayananda Kar while giving his opening remarks on the talk entitled: “Road to god is road to suicide: Prayerless life be stressed; Indians be saved from the myth  of god, heaven and Mokshya.”

Speaking on the occasion, FPI general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire pointed out that political leaders must stop exploiting the people in the name of religion and tradition.  He further added that the myths of heaven, hell, god and goddess etc. were blasted by Copernicus and therefore, prayerless life be chosen. It is a pity that the horrific incident of mass suicide for Mokshya has not yet been condemned by or commented upon by any political leader, he lamented. FPI vice president Harish Chandra Kar observed that prayerless schooling in English medium should be made compulsory all over India so as to promote scientific temper and spirit of inquiry. Geetanjali Sahoo of Bajapur, Khurda, a teacher, married her lover Pabitra Kumar Sahoo of Kundilo of the same district by exchange of garlands in the presence of AMOFOI and FPI functionaries. Marriage certificate was handed over to the couple by co-founder of AMOFOI Swapna Bijayini
