The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) would attend the scheduled meeting of the Law Commission of India on Tuesday to present its views on the proposal to hold simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and the State Assemblies.

Puri MP Pinaki Misra would attend the meeting on behalf of the BJD and present the party’s view on the proposal.

Misra said on Sunday, “Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is the campaigner of simultaneous elections in the country. The party fully supports simultaneous polls. The CM had pioneered the process by taking a decision to hold the State Assembly election during the Lok Sabha election in 2004, a year before the schedule to synchronise it with that year’s Parliamentary poll. The CM’s step on the simultaneous elections is now going to be implemented in the country.”

BJD fully backs simultaneous polls move Earlier, BJD supremo and Chief Minister Patnaik had expressed his support on the suggestions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for holding simultaneous elections.

On June 26, Law Commission of India Chairman Justice BS Chauhan had invited Patnaik for a meeting to share his views on the proposal to hold simultaneous elections.
