NEW DELHI: After launching the Rs 10 thali kiosks on a pilot basis in Shalimar Bagh last year, North Delhi Municipal Corporation plans to develop 500 such kiosks across their jurisdiction by the end of this year.
Senior civic officials claimed that each municipal ward will have at least five such kiosks, where people can avail food for Rs 10. The thali project was announced during the last civic polls and was one of the prime agendas in the BJP manifesto. The project is an extension of Jan Aahar scheme, which was launched by former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit.

The same project was launched by South Delhi Municipal Corporation at four places.

Leader of the House of north corporation, Tilak Raj Kataria, said that all councillors have been asked to identify place for development of five such kiosks in their wards. “It has been decided that by December 2018, 500 such kiosks would serve poor people across 104 municipal wards,” Kataria said.

The thali project is under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Antyodaya Yojna and was launched by both the south and north civic body on former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday on December 25 last year.

Senior officials from north corporation claimed that vendors would be given advertisement rights at their kiosks to ensure that revenue is generated through advertisements.

“We started from Shalimar Bagh ward on a pilot basis. The thali will be available for Rs 10 and we have decided to keep aloo-poori and kadhi-chawal in the menu. The vendor will be given advertisement right to ensure that any shortfall from the scheme is compensated with the help of advertisements. The facility will be open from 10am till 8pm,” Kataria added.
