AHMEDABAD: Even as the police is rattled by the recent hospitalizations suspected to be from toxic hooch, and the government has passed stringent prohibition rules, the menace of liquor continues to spoil many a life. A nurse of civil hospital, Deepika Pal, has lodged an FIR with women’s police station because her husband, Amit Parmar, is a habitual drunkard and used to torture her mentally and physically.
Police said, Parmar and Deepika had a love marriage and have a six-year-old daughter. “Parmar who is the son of retired armyman Rameshchandra Parmar used to come home drunk and when Deepika complained about that to her in-laws, she was tortured.

“Tired of frequent quarrels, Deepika shifted to a new house. But here too her husband continued with the habit of drinking and tortured her. He did not work and used to spend Deepika’s salary on liquor,” said a women’s police official.

Police sources said Deepika has mentioned in her FIR that when she returned home from her night duty on June 23, she found her husband lying on the floor of the house with the TV on.

“She called her in-laws who scolded her and took away liquor pouches from her house. Since then she had locked her house and gone to live at her parental house in Nikol. We have summoned the accused and will take action soon,” said a women’s police official.
