KOCHI: The Ministry of Railways is observing 2018 as the ‘Year of Women and Child Safety’.As part of the campaign drawn up by the Ministry to end crimes against women and children, a programme was held at the Aluva Railway station the other day.

“Officers of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) imparted various tips to passengers, especially women, which would help make their journey a safe and pleasant one,” said Prince A K, RPF inspector. “Programmes are being held all over the country as part of the campaign,” he said.

Prince said women passengers will be made aware of the police escort facility that has been made available in the ladies-only coaches of every train.“If the women face any difficulties while travelling, like being accosted by criminals or if men enter the coaches, they can always contact the RPF by dialling 182,” Prince said.
