Young mentalist Arjun Guru predicting FIFA World Cup winners during a function in Kochi Melton Antony
KOCHI: When mentalist Arjun Guru said the name of Hibi Eden MLA’s first crush, the till then sceptical MLA was thoroughly shocked and the audience broke into laughter. The girl’s name is so uncommon that Hibi did not expect Arjun to guess it right at all.
The MLA was attending the ‘World Cup Winner Prediction’ function held here where Arjun’s prediction was sealed to be opened post-FIFA World Cup. Arjun had earlier asked him to write the name on a paper and keep it in his pocket and the prediction was made mostly based on Hibi’s reactions to Arjun’s guesses and suggestions.
The 21-year-old mentalist also correctly predicted the pin number of the ATM card of one of the people in the audience. Not a football fan or even a follower, even Arjun is clueless as to how he became a part of the football fever. “The decision was so spontaneous. I woke up one fine morning and decided that I would make a football prediction,” says Arjun, who is also a graduate of London School of Economics.
The prediction is written in a story format and is sealed inside a number-locked safe, which is now kept inside a locker at the Central Mall here. The envelope with the prediction was signed by Hibi and television actor Sharan. They also put in two numbers each of the number locks for the safe which will house the envelope for a few days now. With 24-hour camera surveillance which is connected to different phones of the organisers, it is ensured that no one can move or replace the prediction. “I can’t guarantee that all my predictions will be right. I have made wrong predictions in the past. However, based on the various factors I have taken into consideration, I feel the ones I wrote down could be the winners. I might second guess myself but now I won’t have the chance to do so. Also, since I am not a big follower of football, I think I am less biased and therefore my prediction would be more based on other facts and logic.
I also noticed that the huge teams are all making the exit and the World Cup has become almost unpredictable. A challenging prediction is fun,” says Arjun. After the World Cup, the safe will be opened in front of the media. Only then would Arjun’s predictions be verified. A practitioner of mentalism for the last five years, Arjun is now based in Kochi and does shows across the city.
