LUCKNOW: Dreaded mafia don Prem Prakash Singh alias
Munna Bajrangi was gunned down inside prison compound in
Baghpat district on Monday morning.
Bajrangi's wife Seema had organised a presser few days back where she highlighted that her husband was on the hitlist of UP police.
The gangster who hails from eastern UP was lodged in Jhansi prison. He was taken to Baghpat on Saturday since he was to appear before a Baghpat court in connection with an ongoing trial related to a case of extortion which had been lodged against him.
According to police Bajrangi was shot dead by Sunil Rathi, another gangster lodged in Baghpat prison on Monday morning before a van could take him to the local court.
Additional inspector general of prison department Sharad said that an enquiry has been ordered to find out how a firearm was smuggled inside the jail and on lapses found in security arrangements.
Bajrangi's brother in law Sindhujeet Singh said he heard the news from media on Monday morning.
Accused of killing scores with ghastly weapons such as
AK-47 from mid-1990s, Munna Bajrangi had even contested election from Mariyahu in Jaunpur on an
Apna Dal ticket in 2012 while his wife contested from the same seat in 2017.
In 2012, he had secured close to 36,000 votes while SP MLA Shraddha Yadav polled 55,745 votes and won.
Bajrangi has worked closely with another don cum politician
Mukhtar Ansari and belonged to the same camp.
In March 2016, Bajrangi's younger brother-in-law, who looked after his business, Pushpajeet was killed in Lucknow. The case remains unsolved.
