Sugar leads recovery

The Agriwatch Agri Commodities Index rose 1.40 per cent to 107.40 during the week ended July 7, 2018 from 105.91 the previous as agri-commodities witnessed a broad-based recovery.

Sugar, oilseeds and onion led the pack as seven of the nine commodity group sub-Indices and 14 of the 29 individual commodity sub-Indices within the Index recorded weekly gains.

Cereals and cotton were the only sub-Indices to end the week lower. The base for the Index and all sub-Indices is 2014 (= 100). The commodity group sub-Index values and their weekly changes are:

Cereals: 109.91 (-0.29 per cent ), Pulses: 96.27 (+0.22 per cent ), Onion & Potato: 94.40 (+2.39 per cent ), Edible Oils: 109.44 (+0.67 per cent ), Oilseeds: 102.75 (+2.16 per cent ), Spices: 114.93 (+0.09 per cent ), Sweeteners: 107.38 (+6.24 per cent ) and other Non-Food Articles: 86.79 (+2.37 per cent ).
