13,000 students form a ‘reading wall’

Thiruvananthapuram: As part of Reading Week observance, around 13,000 students of St Mary’s Higher secondary school, Pattom, came together to form a ‘reading wall’ at school premises on Monday at 9.30am.
Braving rain, the students came together to read books as part of ‘One hour for reading’ event organized by the state government.

Principal Father C C John said that the huge gathering of students will be included in Incredible Book of Records (IBR). Representatives of the IBR were present at the function to assess the event.

The principal inaugurated the event by reading a classic novel. Headmaster Aby Abraham too read excerpts from a novel. Then students started reading novels, poems and stories of ONV Kurup, Sugathakumari, Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, Kunjunni Mash and Sukumar Azhikode, among others.

As part of the event, libraries were arranged in 225 classrooms in the school. Principal said that that class libraries will ensure that all students are able to access books.
