The new job website, www.thoothukudi.online, that was launched a few days ago, has been receiving lukewarm response.

Collector Sandeep Nanduri said that nearly 120 people had registered themselves on the portal so far. About 25 employers, who have posted 150 vacancies, had also enrolled on the website. He said that nearly 100 companies out of a total of 300 private companies in the district had been contacted so far. More companies would be contacted soon, he added.

The website was launched under the Thoothukudi District Employment Assistance Programme (TEAP) to create employment for those who lost their jobs after the closure of the Sterlite plant, and for those injured during the anti-Sterlite protests.

Earlier, Mr. Nanduri inaugurated a battery car to shuttle the differently-abled and senior citizens from the Collectorate entrance to the main block.

A van, with equipment for testing tuberculosis, was also flagged off at the Collectorate. The van, which can conduct Cartridge-Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (CB-NAAT) to detect TB, would tour the district.

The van, which had earlier visited 28 districts in the State, would complete its tour on July 14 at the District TB Centre here.
