CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government is likely to move the much clamoured Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill in the Assembly today (Monday), the last day of the current session amid demands by activists for a public consultation before adopting the legislation.
AIADMK spokesperson and Fisheries minister D Jayakumar informed the Assembly on Thursday that the bill for Lokpal and Lokayukta would be brought in during the current session itself, making it clear that it would be moved on Monday.
His assurance on moving the Bill came after DMK MLAs raised the issue in the House during the debate on demands for grants for departments.
Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam also promised opposition members of bringing in the legislation for giving shape to Lokpal and Lokayukta.
If moved, the bill will be part of other government business, including a few bills, on a hectic last day of the session, getting very little time for a debate in the House.
