KOCHI: The 80th foundation day of the All India Konkani Parishad was celebrated on Sunday at the Children’s Park theatre here in collaboration with Kerala Konkani Academy. Inaugurating the function, novelist Sethu emphasised the importance of keeping one’s mother tongue alive. “When a language is dead, the whole culture nurtured by generations together vanishes forever,” he said.

He called upon elders in the community to ensure the language is used in all walks of life. He lauded the efforts of the Konkani Parishad to spread and develop Konkani across the country during the past eight decades.

Gokuldas Prabhu, president of the Parishad, who presided over the function retraced the history and achievements of the organisation and presented its plans for taking the language to greater heights.
On the occasion, a session was conducted for high school students, who narrated stories on the basis of pictures given to them. Students from several schools participated in the programme. They were given certificates by the chief guest. This was followed by an open forum in which participants suggested ways and means to face challenges before the language and the Parishad in changing times.

The Parishad’s souvenir was released on the occasion and the function concluded with a Konkani music programme.
