The Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo should go on sale in late 2021, Automobile Magazine reports.
During an exclusive drive of the Cross Turismo prototype, the publication spoke with the head of Porsche’s global electrification efforts, Stefan Weckbach, who stopped shy of confirming that it’ll hit the assembly line.
“Yes, we are indeed working on the E Cross with volume production in mind but, so far, there has not been an official go-ahead,” he said.
However, it is claimed that suppliers tapped to be involved in the Mission E Cross Turismo project have been informed that the vehicle will go on sale towards the end of 2021.
Porsche premiered the Mission E Cross Turismo at March’s Geneva Motor Show as a sibling to the Mission E sedan, which will be named the Taycan when it enters production. The concept features more than 600 HP from its electric powertrain and can reportedly hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 3.5 seconds and reach 200 km/h (124 mph) in less than 12 seconds.
Like the Taycan, the Mission E Cross Turismo can, according to Porsche, cope with multiple acceleration runs without a loss of performance due to overheating.
“A plug-in Porsche must drive and perform like a Porsche fitted with a combustion engine,” Weckbach said to Automobile.
“It must sustain long flat-out autobahn stints without overheating. Repeatability is key when it comes to full-throttle acceleration. The main dynamic parameters have to remain intact through the entire battery charge span. Only when the warning light comes on, under certain conditions, performance may be compromised for range.”
When the Mission E Cross Turismo does hit the market, it should offer a range of around 250 miles (402 km) on the European WLTP cycle.
A number of variants will be available, with prices for the entry-level Cross Turismo likely to start at just under $100,000, while range-topping models will easily exceed $150,000.
