CHENNAI: The Indian men’s hockey squad for the Asian Games will be announced on Monday. While there are expected to be no big surprises in the 18, the likes of Akashdeep Singh may come back thanks to the injury sustained by Ramandeep Singh at the Champions Trophy. PR Sreejesh is expected to skipper the side.

Harendra Singh’s men, who are the defending champs, will also play a three-match warm-up series against New Zealand in Bengaluru from July 19. Meanwhile, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) will hold another meeting on Monday to decide the fate of the swimming contingent. “We haven’t decided yet, it (the final number of swimming competitors) will be known tomorrow (Monday),” a senior IOA official said.

The list which IOA released last week contained 10 swimmers (all men) but that may be trimmed after their recent results are taken into consideration. IOA is yet to have a discussion vis-a-vis the eSports squad. “No discussion has taken place so far,” the official said. The Esports Federation of India has handpicked a 10-member team and is waiting for the IOA nod.
