Heavy rains in the upper reaches of Kinnerasani river over the past two days has pushed up the water level in Kinnerasani reservoir in Palvancha mandal to 397 feet as against its full reservoir level of 407 feet.
The reservoir, the prime water source for the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) at Palvancha and also a major drinking water source in the industrial hub of Kothagudem region, attained its fully glory much to the delight of visitors. The water level is likely to increase by another one or two feet before stabilising in the next 24 hours, sources said.
Meanwhile, the water level in Godavari at Bhadrachalam increased considerably following substantial inflows from the upper reaches of the river. Several streams criss-crossing the hills in the Agency areas of Yellandu, Gundala and various other mandals were in spate causing obstruction to vehicular movement in remote tribal pockets. Traffic movement on the Laxmidevipalli-Gareebpet road in Sujathanagar mandal was disrupted for sometime due to a swollen stream inundating a low-level culvert on the route, sources added.
Coal production in the opencast projects in Sattupalli and Manuguru areas of Kothagudem region remained affected for the second consecutive day on Sunday. In Khammam district, moderate to heavy rains pounded many parts of the district mainly Tirumalayapalem, Kusumanchi, Chintakani and Wyra mandals on Sunday.
The menace of water-logging has returned to haunt residents of Danvaigudem and its surrounding localities under the Khammam Municipal Corporation limits. Heavy rains caused water stagnation in the low-lying areas of the town and its suburbs on Sunday.
