LUDHIANA: Khanna police arrested two drug peddlers on Saturday after recovering 440kg of
poppy husk from their truck on the road to Malerkotla from Khanna Khurd. The accused were identified as Bhagwan Singh from Mohali Kala in Sangrur, and
Boota Singh from Tala in
Raikot.
Giving details, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Khanna, Navjot Singh, said on Saturday, a police party was on patrol duty at T-point at the Khanna Khurd-Malerkotla Road, checking suspicious vehicles. He added that at around 9.15am, a mini-truck β bearing the number PB 13AB-8364 β approached the point from the Malerkotla side.
A police official said: βThe car was partially covered, which raised the suspicion of the cops. They stopped the car and started checking it. The car driver was Bhagwan Singh and his partner was Boota. The truck had 395 piles of soyabean. However, 11 bags of poppy husk were hidden among them, their total weight being 440kg. A case was registered against the driver and his partner under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act at Khanna City-2 police station.β
Cops added that during initial investigation, the accused revealed they were part of an inter-state drug racket. Further investigation is on.
