Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan distributes prizes to winners

It was a fitting finale to the Hyderabad Sailing Week-2018 with Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, E.S.L. Narasimhan, presenting prizes to winners in the multi-class senior national championship that concluded at Hussainsagar here on Sunday.

The event was jointly hosted by the EME Sailing Association, Secunderabad Sailing Club and Laser Class Association of India.

Lt. Gen. Paramjit Singh, VSM, Commodore, EME Sailing Association, complimented the sailors for setting high standards and for showing great competitive spirit in conditions that were generally near-perfect for the sport. “We also thank the State government, all its departments and the sponsors for making it a huge success,” he said. Clearly, from a modest start in 1986, the championship is now one of the most eagerly awaited sailing events in India with international jury officiating the meet.

And also, this edition received the accreditation as YAI national ranking event, that helps sailors pick crucial points to be in the reckoning when it comes to selection to the Indian teams for international events, including Olympics.

The event featured 195 sailors and 183 boats from 15 prominent sailing clubs across the country, including 16 women sailors. And the oldest participant was 67-year-old Murali Kanuri of Secunderabad Sailing Club and the youngest was 11-year-old Ishaan Anand of EME Sailing Association.
