Rail subway: Guirdolim gram sabha to serve notice to SWR

GUIRDOLIM: The Guirdolim gram sabha has unanimously resolved to serve a notice to the South Western Railway (SWR) to respond to the railway subway issue and warned to take to the streets even as they sought clarity on the double tracking of the railway track.

The special gram sabha which was called to discuss various issues pertaining to the village resolved to write to the authorities of south western railway on the status of the subway as there has been no communication despite the panchayat writing to them in January 2017.

The villagers took strong objection that the railway authorities have paid no heed to the long pending demand of the people for a subway while the railways seem keener to expedite the double tracking of the railway line.

The villagers also sought to know the alignment of the railway track as the railways have not informed the panchayat. The villagers warned to take to the streets if the railways do not respond adding the panchayat will be writing to the MLA Cleofasio Dias to take up the matter with the government.

The gram sabha also resolved to call for a joint meeting of the electricity department officials over the repeated power failures and dysfunctional streetlights.  The villagers also raised concern over poor water supply and demanded that the panchayat provide a complaint book in the panchayat.

On the garbage issue, the panchayat informed that it has identified some sites in the village for garbage segregation while also moving a proposal for installing CCTV where people dump garbage in the village.
